Lake County Florida is known for it's 1,000+ beautiful lakes and 202 square miles of water. This week, let's take a look at ways you can enjoy what Lake County has to offer by boat, jetski, kayak, canoe, or cat.
Interested in renting a pontoon boat for a day out fishing on Lake Harris? Lake Harris Boat Rentals just might have what you're looking for! Half day rentals (4 hours) are $175 on weekdays or $225 on weekends. Full day rentals (8 hours) are $250 on weekdays or $350 on weekends. Boats depart and return from Venetian Cove Marina in Leesburg. You can boat on the Harris Chain of Lakes which includes 10 connected lakes, cruise the Dora Canal, or dine at one of the many lakeside restaurants on the chain. They advertise that fuel is included and there is safety gear and stereos on the boats.
Do you enjoy kayaking or canoeing more than operating a motorized boat? Venetian Cove Marina in Leesburg rents out kayaks or canoes for $5 per paddler per day with the center seat being free. Lifejacket rentals are $2 per person per day. They say you can rent from them between 8 am - 4 pm daily but not on holidays.
Another interesting option is to depart from the Dead River in between Lake Harris and Lake Eustis from Palm Gardens Restaurant and Marina. A half-day pontoon rental is $170 and a full day is $255, and they say boats come with fuel and all Coast Guard Safety Equipment. They also rent deck boats for $225 per half day or $350 per full day.
If you'd prefer to head out on Lake Eustis, check out Premier Get Wet Watersports. Half day pontoon rentals are $225 and full day rentals are $375. Two person jetski rentals are $75 per hour. Kayak rentals that hold up to three people are $25 per hour. You can rent a CraigCat Catamaran for two people for $65 an hour. The marina is located on the Harris Chain of Lakes where the cities of Tavares, Leesburg, Eustis, and Mount Dora intersect. They advertise that fuel, gps, and safety gear are all included.
You can head out on Lake Dora (also part of the Harris Chain of Lakes) from the Mount Dora Boating Center and Marina. A pontoon rental can be for 5 hours on weekdays (closed Tuesdays) for $255 or for a full day any day except Tuesday for $325. Rental prices include fuel but not sales tax.
Kayakers and nature lovers will enjoy a one hour, forty five minute guided kayaking tour along the wetlands and shorelines of Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont. The price of $40 includes everything you need to safely enjoy the excursion and promises to be an eco-tour that's suitable for novice to advanced kayakers. Advanced registration is required and can be made online.
Jet skiiers have another option with CF Watersports on Lake Louisa in Clermont. You can rent a jet ski for a half day for $175; if you rent two the price is $150 each. Hourly rentals are also available for $65. They include GPS, fuel, life vest, and a safety lesson. From the departure point at the Palatlakaha River Park and Boat Ramp, you'll be able to access Lakes on the chain including Lake Louisa, Lake Susan, Lake Minnehaha, and others.
Not quite up to handling a boat yourself? Don't worry, there are options for you too! There are private tours down the Dora Canal by Captain Ray of Native Tours. Appointments are from 8 am - 5 pm seven days a week for a 1.5 hour tour for $20 per person with a 2 person minimum (6 maximum). They also do sunset tours - times vary depending on the time of the year.
Another option for people that prefer to have someone else operate the boat is to go on a Premier Boat Tours of Mount Dora adventure. They have two all weather pontoon boats that are covered to keep the sun out, and when it's chilly or there's a shower, they have drop down plastic windows to protect guests from the elements. They do two hour long tours at either 11 am or 2 pm for $28 per person, and they also offer one hour sunset lake cruises for $18 per person. Private tours are also available - see their website for prices. They also do special event cruises like a Christmas Cruise, Fireworks Cruise, or Mount Dora Festival Day Cruises. Tours depart from the Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora.
One more Dora Canal option for non-operators - Rusty Anchor in Mount Dora offers two hour Dora Canal cruises for $28 per adult or $15 per child, or one hour Mount Dora Sunset or Shoreline Cruises for $20 per adult or $15 per child. They also offer Mount Dora Lunch or Dinner Cruises (three hours with a meal at a lakeside restaurant) for $50 per person. They offer Cat Boat tours of the Dora Canal for $65 or if the Lake Dora Shoreline for $45. There's a one hour Christmas Lights tour offered twice daily in December for $30 per adult or $15 per child. Their longest tour is an eight hour Discover Silver Springs tour from Lake Dora to Silver Springs - that one is $300 for each person 13+, $200 for kids aged 6-12, and free for each toddler with a paying adult.
