Lake County offers plenty of options for creative people looking to have a good time learning painting, calligraphy, drawing, ceramics, dancing, or playing an instrument! Take a look at some of these options:
Art:
The Artrageous Art Gallery in Leesburg offers classes all throughout the year. Current offerings include cross stitch, colored pencils, zentangles, alcohol ink painting, silk painting, calligraphy, and Bob Ross Painting. Classes include supplies and they run between $20 - $55.
The Leesburg Center for the Arts MAS (Mobile Art Studio) brings programs to your neighborhood. Sessions are offered for both adults and children. Classes include Watermedia / Drawing, Wordpress Web Design, and Open Studio. The sessions for kids are free; adult open studio times are free for members and adult classes are free or $5.
The Mount Dora Center for the Arts offers classes for adults and children in various art forms. Some of the current offerings include Exploring Ceramics, Oriental Brush Painting, Painting with a Purpose, Drawing for Painters, Exploring Watercolors, Art Experience for Kids, Creative Pages for Tweens & Teens, and Acrylic Glazing Atlantic Sunrise. Some are single class sessions lasting several hours, and others are multiple week sessions. Prices vary and are listed on their website for members and non-members and you can register for classes online.
If you enjoy painting, consider coming to a session offered at Paint & Sip either in Clermont or Mount Dora. They say that Paint & Sip is a great place for having fun with your friends or for meeting new people. Classes include all painting supplies and instruction, and some are for children as well as adults. Most seem to be priced between $27 (1.5 hours) - $45 (2 hours). Currently listed events include Holiday Pinecone Wine Glasses, Paint Your Pet, Love Surf for Couples or Singles, Celestial Florida Cypress, Florida Gulf Shores Sunset, Clyde the Caribou, and Mystical Christmas. You can reserve your seat online.
The Plaster Cottage of Clermont offers two locations (Highway 50 in Clermont or Cagans Crossing Clermont) where you can go in and paint a plaster piece ($1 - $10), ceramic piece ($4 ornament, $10 mug, $40 platter, $60 Christmas tree), design a mosaic, or play with clay or fuse glass. You pay for the piece you want to make and the paint, finish, and firing is included - no studio or additional fees!
The South Lake Art League offers classes for both adults and children at the Downtown Montrose Gallery in Clermont. Pre-registration is required for classes and workshops, and you can download a list of their current offerings from their website. Currently offered classes include water color & water based oil, fundamentals of digital photography, colored pencil, beginner and advanced drawing, open art, mixed media, alcohol ink, pour painting, zentangle, and basket weaving.
Dance:
Dance parties and lessons are given at Anastassia Ballroom & Dance in Leesburg. Learn privately or join a group and focus on tango, bolero, mambo, salsa, waltz, samba, rumba, foxtrot, and more. Group dance classes run $15 per person. They offer wedding dance choreography, school dance / prom prep, youth dance camp, and wheelchair dancing. There is a monthly event where you can show off your moves!
The Arthur Murray Dance Center in Clermont offers dance programs in cha cha, fox trot, hustle, mambo, merengue, rumba, salsa, samba, bachata, bolero, swing, tango, waltz, quick step, and two step. Your first lesson is free.
At Dancin' Ballroom in Leesburg, a variety of ballroom dance lessons and classes are given both privately and in groups. Dance styles include east coast & west coast swing, mambo, bolero, rumba, cha cha, salsa, two step, tango, waltz, and fox trot.
At Discover Ballroom Dance in Mount Dora, you can attend (no pre-registration necessary) a group class for $11 per person or $20 per couple. If you don't have a partner, that's fine - they'll make it work! Classes include waltz, swing, bolero, rumba, and two step. Private lessons are also given and they teach wedding dances. There are monthly studio parties where you can practice what you've learned in class.
Music:
Family Music Clermont advertises that they make musicians and can guide a music student from beginner to performer. They offer lessons in piano, guitar, drum, violin, or voice for $116 per month and instruments can be purchased or rented.
If you've always wanted to learn to play an instrument, Leesburg Music may be the place to go! They have instructors for guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, ukulele, steel guitar, drums, keyboards, saxophone, trumpet, and low brass. Most lesson types run $100 per month plus a one time registration fee of $15.
